Piles of Laundry

Ok who wants to put away piles of laundry? Not me. But it has to be done every week. I have no idea how people stay on top of it all but here's my 'dump it' method.

1. Dump all the washing out of the baskets and onto the bed.

2. Put on a good movie or series - check out 'Larkrise to Candleford' if you love sweet period dramas.

3. Line up the baskets. There is one for each person in our family. Then one for each of the following: school uniforms, sheets, towels, kitchen and socks (my husband's because they are all dark and all look the same).

4. Start folding and sorting. I usually hang t-shirts onto hangers straight from the washing machine.

5. Put away in cupboards and drawers.

I shall confess that the only thing I iron is my fabric stash and usually when I am quilting or sewing. My husband irons his own work clothes.
Feel free to share your laundry tips below...I am willing to upgrade my methods.

  1. Yep, it usually sits in one basket in a big heap until I get sick of rummaging through it. Then I tip it on my bed, turn on the telly and sort into piles and put away. It's bad enough with washing for just myself and Master 2, I don't envy you!

  3. Very similar method here :) dump on spare bed until kids complain they can't find shorts. Put on tv, empty baskets into huge pile on sofa while folding and sorting. We only have 3 baskets so we share :) and like you I only iron my stash :) so no tips to share lol. Although I do find that I can cope with the piles of clean laundry I cannot cope if I don't wash every day. Three messy kids mean I just can't get a day behind!

  4. We only have one laundry basket but this is pretty much my method. :) Re: ironing - you're not the only one. I will iron my me-made skirts, too, or the odd shirt for official ocasions. That's it. And my husband knows that he'll have to iron his stuff or take it to the cleaners should he ever want to wear 'stuffy' clothes for work. :D

  5. Oh I feel better now ladies - we all seem to be fans of 'dumping' and delaying. My sister-in-law likes to fold as she takes items off the line. I just never seem to have the time or patience for that. It does look better and means less crinkles though. And she LOVES ironing - go figure!

  6. My MIL always tells me to do a load a day. I'll be honest and tell you this does NOT work for me! One day a week I do all four (or 5) loads in one day and get it done. My kids are oldnenough tonput away onntheir own and I tell you I lay everything out on my couch...reason being they HAVE to put them away if they want to sit and watch TV!

  7. Sounds like you have it down to a t. Only two of us in the house now so not such a chore any more.
I do fold from the line though, less creasing. And iron as little as possible.

  8. I do full loads... I have 3 baskets (whites, darks, soft colors)close to the washer, when it is full, I do that load. I fold or hang as soon as it comes out of the dryer, that leaves for almost no ironing at all!

  9. Our conservatory is the laundry basket! My Father is the worst. You set your clothes down to come back and get and you find them all over the place after he's been in there. It's funny as his clothes are always on the same chair yet he rifles through all the others! We tend to all grab our own clothes at the weekend =D

  10. Oh I hate hate hate putting laundry away! I fold it as I take it off the line but it does tend to sit like that in the basket for quite some time. Unless the kids tip it out to play games in the washing basket.... haha!
