Sunday Stash #58

Zakka Please! Actually it's Patchwork Please!

If you trio the words Japanese, Paper Piecing and Zakka together you will probably come up with a name - Ayumi Takahashi (Mills). She blogs at Pink Penguin, has a Japanese fabric store on Etsy and is just a genuinely nice person.

This is, surprisingly, her first book but I am sure there are many more to come. After Zakka Style came out last year I was hooked on small everyday projects that the Zakka Style features. What shines through Ayumi's work is her love of text prints and linen, fussy cutting and paper piecing.I pre-ordered my copy through Fish Pond in Australia (although it still shipped from OS). Alyce got her copy in Japan and had Ayumi's signature.

Ayumi's introduction is a delight to read. She goes on to list materials, techniques and resources in careful detail before introducing 19 projects to make.

Now there is a Zakka 2.0 Sew Along starting up next month (June 2013) back at LR Stitched with Lindsey and also at A Quilter's Table with Deb. I like both of these bloggers immensely. I will not have as much time to do all of the projects this time and so I will be making the ones that interest me.

And here are some:

I could do with those three above. The next couple would make lovely gifts as well.

Have I tempted you enough to buy a copy? Or even buy a copy and join me on the SAL? Last year I could not convince any of my QCA friends to join in with me but I did meet some fabulous new people through the Zakka Style SAL - Heidi, Kirsten, Mareen and Vera.

I am hoping that Amanda, The Patchsmith, will also be back as she was our collective pattern trouble shooter. She also photographed a lot of the tricky sections so that many of us could understand the pattern instructions.

Thank you to the wonderful 11 people who linked up last week and made Sunday Stash worth visiting all week. Next week the guest host will be Kate Quilts so I will join you over there. I will be in Armidale NSW for the weekend so will have to post in advance.

Linky below for this week.

Sunday Stash #53

A couple of us might double up with fabrics this week. We are the happy recipients of the Japanese Bundle Club at Blossom Heart Quilts. Alyce is in the unique position of sourcing Japanese fabrics as she lives in Chiba in Japan.

Each month she chooses a theme and sends out a mystery pack of six prints. I decided to get a Fat 8th bundle for January and February. The March theme is Japanese Kawaii.

You may have been reading Alyce's blog whilst she has been visiting family and friends in Australia. Her 'Tea for Two' pattern is still on sale through Craftsy (made it to #2 this week) to help support her sister and brother-in-law who lost their near term baby early last month. You can see a beautiful photo and read a heartfelt thank you from them here on Alyce's blog. Warning: it may make you cry!

Winner Winner!

The random winner of last Sunday's Anniversary gift is  #8 Audrey from Hot Pink Quilts. I will be sending you the copy of Australian Quilter's Companion in the post.

Thank you to the lovely 10 ladies who linked up last week. It was nice to have a few new blogs to visit on Sunday Stash.

Now it's your turn. Please feel free to link up below.

Sunday Stash #42

Snippets Here and There

I had a girl's weekend away last month and got to visit my favourite fabric shop in Yamba - Simply Crafts. I bought 2x 1m packs for $12.50 and the Weekender Travel Bag pattern from Amy Butler.

Top: 'Deer Valley' by Joel Dewberry. Bottom: 'Mingle-Monaluna' by Robert Kaufman
While I was in Noumea, Gemma from Pretty Bobbins gave me more than a yard of traditional Kannak fabric.

With a $10 off Spotlight voucher I bought just 25cm increments of these Sydney, London and Paris linen fabrics. There is one for Melbourne but it was not in stock. I wonder if they also have a print for New York?

And I bought some Flat Fats of the text prints they currently stock.

A bit of a mixed Sunday Stash but I am interested to see what you have added. Feel free to link up below.
