Some of the books I have read this year.
Are you reading much lately? I find it's hard with so much social media and regular media to distract us. For me I find it best to go to bed earlier and then read to go to sleep.

This year I set myself a goal of reading one book a month. I am well on track but I have few secrets as to how I manage this. I divide and conquer:

* 1/2 books by my bed
* 1 book in the car - for spare time waiting for the bus, soccer training etc.
* 1 self help book in the loo - along with a highlighter pen
** I also have used cd books in the car for long driving periods.

I also track how I am going with the 'Goodreads' tool. It keeps a list of your current reading and also what page you are up to. It keeps me accountable to my goal as well. If you have friends also on 'Goodreads' then you can see what they are reading too!

I tend to read non-fiction books and they do take longer to read. History books like the Atlas World War 2  take the longest because of their detail.

So this is what I am currently reading. Unfortunately, I have been in bed with a nasty flu the past 4 days and now the Atlas is overdue to the local library. Sadly I have been too ill to read or do much at all really. Off to the doctor's this morning thanks to my husband who has been looking after me and the kiddies so well.

What about you? What are you currently reading? Any recommendations?

  1. I love reading books! I tend to go with fiction and fantasy novels myself. I'm still into the Jacqueline Wilson books which are fiction but based on real life stories.
I got a trilogy of books by Patrick Ness Choas walking is the grouping.
I've read books by Meg Cabot, Karen McCombie and Tim Bowler to name a few. I have so many books in my shelves on my bed as well as under it. I've read some many times and some only once. =D

    1. It is great when you can find a series that you like. I have not heard of these authors.

  2. Yep I'm a bookworm. I just can't get the hang of reading e-books though - I'd prefer a good old fashioned book in my hands!

I was a bit embarrassed the other day to have overdue fines at my local library! Oh dear!

    Feel better soon lovely!! xx

  3. I love reading. Reading makes me sleepy so I always read in bed at night. I loved 11.22.63, I'm a big Stephen King fan. At the moment I'm reading A Clash Of Kings by George R.R. Martin (the second book in the Game Of Thrones series). Next on my list is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Hope you feel better soon x

    1. 11.22.63 had me reading until late at night in some bits but then it slowed down to a crawl at times. I read all of Stig Larsson's books just before the movies came out. I bought my dad that Game of Thrones series because he likes fantasy and sci-fi.

  4. I also love reading but if you read my latest post, you know that I too spend too much time using social media. But I listen to audiobooks - it took me awhile to get used to it but now I love it - I always have an audiobook on when I'm sewing (well, unless my kids are in the room with me) or um, exercising. Right now I'm listening to The Night Circus. I think You and I are friends on goodreads - mine is not updated but it is on my list to do so!

  5. I will look you up Beth. Yes audio books are pretty good for driving and sewing. I love ones where the reader can change the character's voices.

  6. I love books and like Kristy I prefer to have a volume in my hand and not on some screen. Not too much reading for pleasure at the moment but I'm counting on the last quarter of the year. Get well soon. x

  7. I have kept a record of all the books I have read in the last 6 or more years! My record is over 50- before blog reading took over! Have you read Kate Atkinson books with Jackson Brodie as the protagonist? Great series!

  8. I'm an avid reader and I too don't like reading ebooks. I love the feel of a book and the texture of the paper in my hands. My library tell me I keep them in business! I have 3/4 books on the go at any time and I probably get through 3 or 4 a week, depending on the book. Just found a lovely series by Colin Cotterill, the first of which is called The Coroner's Lunch. Its set in Laos in the late 70's and its just a revelation, mystery and humour and an insight into a country and its traditions I didn't know much about. I also love Janet Evanovich, and love the Phryne Fisher and Corinna Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood as well as loads of others.

  9. Since my Honeyman sat on my Kindle three weeks ago I have been reading nothing! POO!! But prior to that I did have a great run on getting a few things read! I had fun with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. It was a quick read and kind fo fun. And of course if you have not yet gotten into the Hunger Games! I loved them! (oh, did I mention I am dyslexic and read VERY slowly so when I say a quick read...)

    1. Josie - sad about your kindle but good on you for reading so much. I was talking with a Year 6 student last week about his Kindle (he is dyslexic too) as I have never seen one. He was on the hunt for a book with Pirate's in it. I recommended 'The Pirate's Mixed Up Voyage' but we could not find it in the library and I know that it comes in a hilarious audio version where one man does all the character's voices. I am hoping he gets to hear it one day.
